It is difficult to differentiate between bacterial and viral causes of acute sinusitis. And there is no simple diagnostic test.
Clinical criteria of diagnosing bacterial sinusitis:
- Symptoms lasting 7 days or more
- Purulent nasal secretion
- Maxillary/tooth pain
Sinus radiology is not recommended in uncomplicated sinusitis.
