It is difficult to differentiate between bacterial and viral causes of acute sinusitis. And there is no simple diagnostic test.Â

Clinical criteria of diagnosing bacterial sinusitis:

  • Symptoms lasting 7 days or more
  • Purulent nasal secretion
  • Maxillary/tooth pain

Sinus radiology is not recommended in uncomplicated sinusitis.
