Sore throat or pharyngitis is a common occurrence. It can be due to bacterial or viral cause. Antibiotics is required only when it is a bacterial cause.
Criteria for acute bacterial pharyngitis:
- Fever
- Tonsillar exudate (pus)
- Tender, swollen lymph nodes around the front of your neck
- Absence of cough
So, don’t always ask for antibiotics unless you have at least 3 of the 4 criteria.
