2 out of 5 stars THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!   December 17, 2008

I have been using this unit for over a year. My daughter has cystic fibrosis which causes significant lung issues.

It says the filter never has to be replaced, just vacuumed. I have been doing that, but only the pre filter was clogged with dust, and allot of it.

The large barrel hepa filter on the top was always white and never dusty. I decided to unscrew some screws on the bottom under the rubber feet to investigate. The instructions are sparse and do not tell you how to get the unit apart for easy cleaning.

I found a large ring of packing styrofoam blocking any air from getting to the hepa filter, so the small carbon pre filter was the only one doing the job.

The unit comes pre-assembled, so you would not know this unless you took it apart. It is not hard to take apart, BUT THIS HAS TO BE DONE OR IT WONT FILTER PROPERLY! THE STYROFOAM HAS TO BE BROKEN INTO PIECES AND YOU WILL SCRAPE YOUR HAND UP GETTING IT OUT IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL.

I have not turned it back on yet, but will update my progress as I find out.

4 out of 5 stars Air is cleaner!   December 16, 2008
I bought this for my son's room - it makes a very nice white noise. Is very quiet on low setting. We keep it on medium and my son can easily sleep with it on. The air in his room is lighter, fresher and easier to breathe. It is slightly drafty - but he gets warm at night. It is a little on the large side. I am glad I got this one.

5 out of 5 stars as quiet as a fan   December 12, 2008

1 out of 5 stars UGLY and EXPENSIVE   December 1, 2008

I have done extensive research on indoor air purifier and the thing is, you do not want the one that is 1) heavy and ugly 2) Nosy 3) expensive to run it 4) expensive to maintain 5) Does not function as well for the money. I came up with THE BEST air purifier there is on the market AIR SOURCE 3000 by Shaklee. One SMALL unit covers up to 3000 Sq feet, no filter to chance, they look like an art, quite and energy saving, kills bacteria and virus, and DOES the job it is supposed to. I will think twice before you buy one of these ugly heavy bulky expensive appliance.

5 out of 5 stars Quiet!!! Works great...   November 3, 2008
After reading reviews about how loud some other units were, I decided to try these. I ended up getting two of them, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. The low setting (which we use in the bedroom) is practically silent and you forget that it is running. The medium setting is a little bit louder, but you still forget it is on unless you are paying attention to it. The high setting is much louder, but still acceptable. I did notice a huge difference in my allergies within a day or two and haven't reverted back to my crazy allergies since he filters arrived.
