Amazon.com Product Description
Have you noticed how difficult it is to wake up to the alarm clock some mornings, even if you've had a full night's sleep? The reason has to do with your sleep patterns. When you're alarm goes off while you're in the middle of a deep sleep, you'll wake up feeling groggy and irritable. If you get lucky and your alarm clock goes off while you're in the middle of a light sleep, you'll wake up feeling energetic and refreshed.

The Sleeptracker Wake Up Monitor will wake you at just the right time.

Revolutionize your concept of an alarm clock with the easy-to-use Sleeptracker. View larger or click here for button details.
The Sleeptracker Wake Up Monitor is designed to monitor your sleeping patterns continuously in order to wake you up during your brief, almost-awake moments. In this way, you'll be assured of always be woken up at the right time.

A Revolutionary Alarm Clock
When we sleep, we move in a continuous cycle, from a deep sleep to brief periods when we're almost awake, and then back into a deep sleep again. This pattern repeats itself throughout the night. The average adult experiences four to five full sleep cycles over an eight-hour period. Each cycle lasts about 90 to 110 minutes and is made up of five different stages. During the first stage of your sleep cycle, you sleep lightly. At stage two, your sleep gets progressively deeper, and at stages three and four, also known as "Delta sleep," you sleep most heavily. The fifth stage of sleep, also known as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, is marked by extensive physiological changes, such as accelerated respiration, increased brain activity, rapid eye movement, and muscle relaxation.

During these stages, there are brief moments when you're nearly awake. The Sleeptracker -- one of Time Magazine's Best Inventions of 2005 -- is designed to find those almost-awake moments within the sleep cycle. When you set an "alarm window" (a period of time within which you want to be awoken) on the Sleeptracker, the monitor will continuously monitor your body for signals that you are nearly awake, and the monitor's customized alarm clock will go off within the time frame that you've set. Instead of waking up groggy and irritable because you were woken up during a deep sleep, you'll wake up feeling refreshed and energetic.

A Customized Alarm Clock
The Sleeptracker is worn like an everyday wristwatch and is ideal for anyone who wants to start the day fresh and energized. Frequent travelers crossing time zones, business people looking for that extra edge, students with fluctuating schedules, and moms needing to be at the top of their game first thing in the morning are all ideal users of the Sleeptracker.

The Sleeptracker is also designed to help you understand how you sleep at night. Using an accelerometer, the Sleeptracker monitors for brief moments of movement (typically lasting less than 30 seconds) during your lighter stages of sleep and records them. The next morning, you can review this data to better understand your sleep cycles. This information will help you adjust your habits so you can get a better rest.

This chart illustrates a typical adult sleep pattern. As the chart indicates, several almost-awake moments may occur within a sleep cycle. The Sleeptracker is designed to wake you up during one of these moments within your pre-set "alarm window," so you wake up refreshed and energized.
Note: While the Sleeptracker is designed to help everyone wake up refreshed, no two people have the same sleep cycles, and nobody has the same cycle twice. Many factors can influence sleep cycles, including diet, exercise, medications, drugs, alcohol, stress, sleep disorders, and sleep deprivation. Age and gender can play a role as well. Women tend to sleep more soundly than men, and as we age, we sleep more restlessly. The Sleeptracker is not a cure for sleep disorders or any other health issues that may affect your sleeping patterns.

Product Description
Sleep and sleeplessness have an effect on your physical and emotional well-being. The cycles of normal sleep have been studied and the results demonstrate that, for example, the REM (dream) stage plays an important role in memory storage. Awakening from the REM cycle in the morning provides a fresher and more alert wakening than if you woke from Level-4 deep sleep. How you waken plays a significant role on your alertness, mood, and productivity during the day. The SLEEPTRACKER watch monitors your sleep patterns and can help wake you up at best time.
The revolutionary new SLEEPTRACKER monitors your body and continuously looks for your best possible waking times. SLEEPTRACKER wakes you up at just the right moment - during a window of time that YOU set. Imagine not feeling tired in the morning and getting a few extra minutes out of your day. Now it's possible with SLEEPTRACKER. Worn like an everyday watch, SLEEPTRACKER is ideal for anyone who wants to wake up alert and ready to start the day, such as frequent travelers across time zones, business people looking for an extra edge, students with fluctuating schedules, or busy moms who need to wake up easily. Customized alarm adjusts to your body to find your best waking moment / Continuously monitors your body for signals that you are almost awake. If you've set the ALARM WINDOW, the alarm goes off at your most awake moment during that window, so you'll wake up refreshed and ready to start the day

1 out of 5 stars Aboslutely ridiculous.   December 1, 2008
I don't know if the "theory" works or not, because the watch is total garbage. I have other complaints, but I'll just list the biggest. The $5 watch that costs $100 comes with a very soft beep for an alarm. You cannot make it louder in any way. So, the watch may or may not wake you up assuming it's right next to you, but once you put your wrist under a blanket, it's completely inaudible. In the summer, if you sleep without a blanket, it might wake you up. However, if you care at all when you wake up, set a real alarm also, because this one will probably not wake you up at all. I fully support their right to charge $100 for a $5 watch that includes some new inventive "technology," but it would be nice if they made it to actually work. I have no other description of the implementation of this idea other than: ridiculous. I'm sure they'll fix this problem at some point, and I think they now have a $200 version that vibrates. Do not buy this watch until they fix this problem.

2 out of 5 stars It doesn't wake me up   September 8, 2008
It would have been great if it actually woke me up. I end up with my arm under my pillow too often, and the alarm is too quiet to wake me up. I returned it.

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly effective in an unintended way   September 5, 2008
Lately I'd become convinced I wasn't sleeping at all. Purchased this and learned I actually was sleeping better than I realized. Simply knowing that helps me relax easier and sleep even better.

It's got a lot of room for improvement. If you wake prior to your window I don't believe there's a way to get it to stop monitoring, so the eventual stats will be distorted. Also, I don't know whether there's a way not to have an alarm.

Even though I think it's imperfect, using it helps me sleep better so I'm satisfied.

4 out of 5 stars it works, but buy the "pro" model   February 22, 2008

It works as advertised, but I wish I had spent the extra few dollars on the "Pro" model. I skipped it as the synching didn't seem very useful (and is PC-only), and hadn't realized that the standard model doesn't have the vibrating alarm.

Thus, about one in ten mornings I can't hear the alarm from under the blankets at all. Also it isn't very pleasant for bedmates. On top of that, I decided to start tracking my sleep patterns in a spreadsheet... that synching would come in handy after all.

So: an overall good product. If you have sleep problems, give one of their models a try before taking the medical route.

2 out of 5 stars Novelty wears off   February 13, 2008

The idea of this thing is really good, and when I first got it I could swear that it worked. After a couple of weeks though things got back to normal. I use this daily (habit) and I have to say that I feel no different being woken up by this, to my mobile phone. 9 times out of 10 I hit the snooze button on it twice in a row and end up being woken by my mobile phone (backup).

The buttons also cease functioning very well - it's quite cheaply made for the hurrendous price.
