Amazon.com When cold and flu season strikes, it's time to take this cool mist humidifier out of the closet. The humidifier provides healthful vapor that can help relieve the dehydrating symptoms brought on by colds and the flu, helping nasal passages breathe easily again and easing the irritation of coughs and sore throats. It offers a wonderful alternative therapy for children, those who prefer not to take over-the-counter medications, and those who can't take decongestants due to pregnancy or incompatibility with other medications. This low-noise humidifier also takes preventative measures against colds by putting enough humidity in the air to combat the dryness caused by many heating systems. The humidity moistens the respiratory system and helps it to actually fight off viruses, bacteria, and pollutants. The translucent water tank is easy to fill and monitor and outputs about 1.2 gallons of moist air into the room--enough for 18 hours of continuous use on one filling. Impurities or minerals in the water are trapped in an antibacterial wicking filter so vapor is pure and is emitted without any white dust. When the tank is empty, it totally drains without leaving any potentially bacteria-laden standing water in the bottom. Two settings--high and low--let you adjust the humidity level to the appropriate room size or moisture level and Vicks's special "evaporative technology" also kicks in to ensure that rooms maintain the proper moisture level and are not overly humid. This humidifier has a dishwasher-safe tray for hygienic cleaning and is covered by a three-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

A Quite Decent Humidifier October 11, 2008 After reading many, many, negative reviews of various and sundry humidifiers, I thought that this one seemed like the best deal. I have had it for about a month now and haven't experienced a single problem with it. The high setting is, as other reviewers have noted, noisy. Nevertheless, the low setting emits a low hum that is actually quieter than a fan. It has not leaked even once, although I could see how if the tank were not situated quite right on the base, it could conceivably leak. Filling the humidifier and then moving it would probably cause leaking as well, as the sides of the water tray aren't very high. The vapor, as noted in the packaging, is invisible, but I can tell that its producing humidity, as the room (10x12, approximately) does get progressively more humid and I can hear occasional "glug"-type noises from the humidifier when it has to gulp more water. Based on my current usage (mostly just running it at night), I imagine that the replaceable filter will last me about two months or so. Filters seem to be a bit difficult to find, but they are available through Amazon and are quite reasonably priced. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this humidifier for the price.
Good, not great October 4, 2008 We have had this humidifier for almost a year now. The mist is not as powerful as I first thought it would be. For some reason our humidifier sometimes does not "utilize" the water in the tank. We fill up only 1/5 of the capacity and it's on for about 8 hours during the night, and sometimes there is still water left in the tank. It's a pain since you should not let water sit there, otherwise it gets stinky and dirty.
This is the other downside. The filter does get very dirty pretty easily, and stinky. We use only at night, every day, and the filter gets "nasty" with 1 month of use. We do use tap water.
We can notice difference in the room when it's on. We turn it on for about 30 min before going to bed, leave the bedroom door closed and you can definitely tell the room is not as dry.
this humidifier is terrible! October 1, 2008 0 out of 2 found this comment useful.
It doesnt let out any mist, and the water level stays the same. This humidifier is a waste of money. I will never buy another Vick's product again.
Terrible Product September 27, 2008 We bought 2 of these, one for my twins' room and one for ours, and they are terrible. They leak if you try to move them (which trying to keep them away from my twins, happens every morning.) My carpet is soaked. One of them has already broken. Total waste of money.
Review September 15, 2008 This humidifier is well worth the money. Simple to use and does a good job.
