Quiet!!! Works great... November 3, 2008 After reading reviews about how loud some other units were, I decided to try these. I ended up getting two of them, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. The low setting (which we use in the bedroom) is practically silent and you forget that it is running. The medium setting is a little bit louder, but you still forget it is on unless you are paying attention to it. The high setting is much louder, but still acceptable. I did notice a huge difference in my allergies within a day or two and haven't reverted back to my crazy allergies since he filters arrived.
Good for allergies October 28, 2008 As other have said, the first day you run it, you will get a wierd smell, be prepared. But after that it's great. During the time I am not in the room I run it on high, when I sleep I run it on low. I have 2 dogs, and all of us have allergies, and this has helped.
Works great 4.5 stars September 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this comment useful.
We've had this unit plugged in for just under a month and the difference in my girlfriend's cat allergies is amazing. We crank it up to medium or high when we come home for the evening, but leave it on low overnight and while we're at work. The only draw back is that it's quite large. Luckily it works well even without the recommended 360 degree clearance. It doesn't do much for odors, but that's not what we wanted it for. All-in-all, a great buy.
Excellent and as quiet as advertised! August 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this comment useful.
I have a small room with a dog, a rat in a cage, and three ferrets, so we definitely need an air purifier to "purify" the air in here! I got this version to replace an older, outdated version I had when I needed a new filter and couldn't find out because it had been discontinued. I have to say, it does look nicer and it is quieter, but I found that the older version kept the pet smell out of my room more. Still, I am very happy with this product! When it is set to low, you can hardly hear it at all!
Why does this air purifier smell like wet dog? July 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this comment useful.
I got this because of the overwhelming positive feedback it inspired. Shipping time was light-speed fast and the unit worked mostly ok but, like other reviewers, I HATE the instruction booklet.
OK, the unit comes already put together but you need to put the pre-filter in before you start the unit up. This is actually a very easy thing to do but it becomes very confusing very fast when you try to follow the crappy instructions in the booklet. You don't need to take the top off (contrary to instructions). You actually need to put the black velcro-looking strip along the inside of the bottom of the unit, (This will become clear once you are looking at the thing.)
The other problem is that after a couple of weeks, we all started noticing a 'wet-dog' smell in the air. Not horribly offensive, but not aromatic either. We had just had the house professionally cleaned so I knew that all potential stinkies had been taken care of. On a sniff 'n' search, I discovered that the Honeywell was the culprit - stinking up my clean house! I took the thing apart, looking for the problem. Found nothing, it was completely clean. The filter itself did not smell but the air being expelled was awful. I found that if I turned it down to the lowest setting, it went away (or became unnoticeable) but after a couple of hours of medium or high, the phantom smell returns.
Any ideas??
Other than that, this is a pretty good unit and not loud at all. On high you notice it more but my kids successfully cover it with yelling, screaming, laughing, arguing etc.
As for cleaning the air, I do notice cooking smells leave the downstairs area faster and our asthmatic sleeps easier at night. So I still recommend it but if I were to buy another one, I might try a different model.
