2 out of 5 stars Caution! Great When It Works - Not Recommended!   November 12, 2008
I have used the "Sidekick" several times as a back up and traveling meter in place of my Ascensia CONTOUR Monitoring System. It worked fine the first two times, but on the third unit (you buy the whole unit each time) it showed readings that seemed way too low for what I had eaten and how I was feeling. Retesting several times showed the same results so I ate a bunch of carbs to raise my blood sugar levels and headed home. Once home, my "Contour" meter reported my sugar levels to be VERY high so tested again with the "Sidekick", which again reported low blood sugar levels. Likely I just had a bad meter or bad test strips (these things happen), but it isn't worth the risk to me. I bought another "Contour" to keep at work and for traveling.

Not recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Cheapest option at this time   September 8, 2008

This little meter and strips is the cheapest option I have been able to find. It's easy to get confused about test strips & meters, and the companies often give away the meters to get you started on their system, making you buy their expensive test strips (that's where they make their money). You get 50 strips with the Sidekick meter, for about $30. Additionally, it is convenient and easy to use. I believe it is as accurate as any of the meters out there.

5 out of 5 stars The best Blood Glucose Testing System so far!   June 14, 2008

I love the Sidekick! The testing strips are included in the holder and monitor is on top. Only thing you need is a lancet and you are ready. I have had no problems with it ready and you can test on arm, hand or fingers. So compact and east to carry wherever I go.

5 out of 5 stars Best portable blood glucose tester   February 10, 2008

Very compact, but not selfcontained, you still have to carry a lancet device and lancets with you. I wish for a computer interface (maybe infrared or bluetooth) to upload your log, but still a very useful product.

Compact and portable. Very easy to use and requires minimal blood sample.
Will definitely be purchasing again
