This is a great product and for the price (almost half off the listed) it's a very good deal! The Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04381 Allergen Reducer purifier has 3 speed settings. The `High' is loud. The `Medium' is not bad; it almost sounds as loud as my computer. The `Low' is great for light sleeper, could barely even hear it at this setting. I mostly leave mine on at the `Medium' setting. The TrueAir 04381 purifier works great. I could feel the difference after using it for a few days. It cleaned out a lot of dust floating in my room. It's also very light, so moving it around frequently is not a problem. Also, the cost of the replacement filter, Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04712 Allergen Reducing Filter is fairly inexpensive (Currently, Amazon has `Buy 4, get 1 free' deal). I also found that you do not have to replace the filter every 120 days. You can easily just vacuum off the dust and pop it right back in (put it back with the same side facing outward, this will prevent the dust from getting suck back into your room again in case your vacuum did not pick all the dust from filter). Eventually, you might want to replace the filter though, but this way you do not have to replace it every 120 days. There is a suggestion in the filter (TrueAir 04712) review section on how to make this unit more `HEPA-like' for those that are interested.

This little baby is the answer. It's quiet and the filters are cheap and easy to replace. I work at home in a spare bedroom. Smoking was making my space smell like a bar. I turn the device on when I go in, and leave it running for a bit after I leave. The difference is amazing.

I purchased this air filter because on occasion a friend of mine spends the night in the spare room. She is terribly allergic to dogs and cats. I have two dogs and two cats. She has to take meds to get through an evening here. I bought the air filter and for the first time in her life, staying at my house,she slept through the night and had no breathing problems at all. She is usually hacking and sniffling part of the night. So this did the job.

I ordered this item b/c I have terrible allergies and I am constantly getting sick. So far I've only purchased one and I am trying it out in my bedroom. I can definitely feel the difference and it's only been about a week!
As much as like the product, I would not do business with this company again though. The service was terrible. The product was delayed by like 3 weeks for shipping and I was never notified, until I called to complain that is. Then 2 weeks after the product arrives they offer to refund my shipping charges in order to get me to remove the negative rating I left for their company on [...]. The whole experience just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've had this thing for a day and I am amazed. Like the other person who was excited about writing a review, I feel as if I can't wait to tell anyone and everyone that it works wonders. My apartment reeked of cigarette smoke - none of us smoke, but somehow the smoke from the upstairs apartment managed to find its way into our apartment. There's a huge difference between masking the smell with plug-in air fresheners and actually cleaning the air. Within 30 minutes, my room had no smell whatsoever (approx. 12x12 ft. room). The cost of the replacement filters is probably going to be less than having to spend money on plug-in refills.
On the highest setting, it sounds like a box-fan on medium speed. This product is well worth it! I'll be sure to update later on after I test it out in the larger living room.
