Good entry level HRM February 23, 2007 19 out of 19 found this comment useful.
I'll try to make this brief. First, I can tell you that I have lost about 26 pounds without the use of a personal heart rate monitor like this one. However, as far as exercise is concerned, I got this far ONLY riding a stationary bike, which came with an HRM on it. I have really gotten into exercising after being overweight for a long time and after having to endure achilles tendonitis in the last half of 2006. So, doing low impact exercise was really all I could do up until recently. Well, I'm in the next phase of my "life change" and it will involve not just being tethered to a bike, but running and lifting. So, I needed to get a portable unit to wear.
Well, if you are considering exercising or have already begun, this unit is a great "starter" model. It will provide you with all the feedback you need to get started such as max/min heart rate setting with alarm, stopwatch, and of course the heart rate itself. The chest unit fits fine and you really don't notice it all that much. I am a big guy with a rather large chest and it is plenty big even for me.
I STRONGLY suggest you research heart rates as it pertains to exercise. It will absolutely convince you that you need a heart rate monitor. Feedback is critical to getting the most out of your workout. If you do not know what your heart rate is, you can not stay in the "zone" that you need for the conditioning you are looking to achieve(fat burning, endurance, etc.).
The only complaint I have is that the unit came with a dead battery....grrrr! Oh well at least you can change it yourself on this unit...went to the store, got a new one and was good-to-go.
Acurate, Durable, and Affordable February 21, 2007 10 out of 10 found this comment useful.
You know I was pretty surprised how well it worked. I pretty much took a leap of faith due to the fact that I am on a budget (trying to get ready for the fire academy, wish me luck!)
What comes with your purchase is a heart monitor strap that goes around your chest. You do feel it, but when your running and in the zone, it doesn't really bother you. A watch that teleports the heart rate from the heart monitor strap to the watch. You also get a rubber mound on which you can place your watch on an exercise machine, and a convenient pouch to store everything.
What I also like about it is that I can just put on just the chest strap, and it would transmit my heart rate onto a treadmill or an oplitical machine without the watch.
Overall I am happy. I wanted to go with Polar, but you get all this for a fraction. And it really works. Overall, I would recommend this to my friends and other gym "rats".
Unreliable, Strap Broke first week February 20, 2007 6 out of 8 found this comment useful.
bought this about a month ago on Amazon. The first time I wore it I noticed that it was unreliable. It will give you accurate heart rate for about 30 minutes but then it fluctuates within 50 points back and forth. It is not reliable. I bought this so that I could train within my target zone but with this piece of junk you do not know where your heart rate is at any given second. It jumps from 140 to 220 to 88 to 100 to 200. Also, the monitor part that straps to your chest broke the third time I wore it so now I've just thrown it in the trash and will buy another brand..
Too easy February 18, 2007 6 out of 6 found this comment useful.
This heart monitor is so easy to use and seems very reliable. It is far less expensive than so many others but so practicle and simple. This is a pleasure to use to help organize and refine my training workouts.
A very good monitor ! February 18, 2007 4 out of 4 found this comment useful.
I am useing the Omron HR- 100C rate monitor when I walk fast on my treadmill and it has did a good job for telling me where my heart rate is up to when I go fast or use my incline up fairly high.I find it to be very helpful to get myself in the weight loss mode by checking the monitor and have it right on the rails of my treadmill.I would recommend this as a excellent choice to purchase & have used the Omron pedometers for years & also love them too.I can't wait to try the newer pedometer now!
