Ditto October 12, 2008 I agree that this is a great pedometer with great easy to use software. I find that any mini usb cable works with it, if the one that comes with it is misplaced. It is motivational and fun... accurate as well.
Omron Pedometer October 12, 2008 The Omron HJ-720ITC pedometer has been an asset in helping to monitor physical activity as an aid to controlling my diabetes. Walking every day has helped me lower my need for insulin. The software that came with the meter is easy to use and provides useful information in a graphical format that allows me to set goals and motivates me to keep improving.
Great, but not perfect October 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this comment useful.
I've used quite a few pedometers in my day and this one is by far the best. Not perfect, though. Some of the pros: the flexibility of being able to carry it in your pocket or bag is not to be underestimated. If you want to wear your pedometer to work but don't want it to be obvious, this is ideal. I also love the software option. In the past, I would mark my progress in a little notebook. But the fact that you can plug the unit into your computer and instantly see your data in the form of charts and graphs is great! Seeing a visual display of your progress on the screen is a great motivator. This pedometer is remarkably accurate and has some nice bells and whistles, like measuring aerobic time and calories burned. OK, now the cons: My biggest complaint is that there is only one user setting. I would like to be able to have different settings for multiple users, or for different strides. For example, if you have your stride set for walking, but you wear the pedometer running, you won't get an accurate read. Also, if a friend or family member wants to use the pedometer, they will either have to re-set everything or know that their reading is going to be way off. The walking stride of a 5'2" woman is much shorter than that of a 6' man and will greatly skew the results. My other big complaint is that you can't measure the distance of a particular stretch of road/trail/track. This unit is designed to give you an overall reading of a 24 hour period, which is great, but I wish there was an option that allowed you to set it right before a run or walk to know the particular distance of that stretch. Other minor complaints: the unit is kind of big/bulky when in the belt holster. If you take it out of the holster and put it in your shirt pocket, it's slim and you don't really even notice it. I saw some people complaining about the holster breaking or not holding onto your pants. I have not had this problem at all yet, but I've only had the unit for 2 weeks. Other gripes: the manual could be better and the safety clip/lanyard could be thinner/less bulky. Overall, a great pedometer. It's the best I've used and I'd definitely recommend it. Tip: measure your stride several times and take the average of those measurements. I found myself taking longer strides than normal when I was measuring so I did it a bunch of times.
Amazing Pedometer October 11, 2008 I love this pedometer. It is easy to set up, easy to use, and is extremely accurate. I also love the software. I download my information to the computer at least once a week so I can see my progression. Highly recommend this model.
Excellent Value October 11, 2008 I had to admit that I was a little bit skeptical after reading so many positive reviews, but everyone is dead on the money. This is an EXCEPTIONAL pedometer. I have tested its step-counting accuracy on numerous occasions and the largest error that I have observed was 2%. The manual states that its accuracy is within +/- 5%, so it certianly exceeded my expectations.
It counts steps and even has separate tracking for aerobic workouts which is defined as walking continuously for more than 10 minutes and/or walking at a rate of 120 steps/minute. It also keeps track of the calories your burn and shows the equivalent grams of fat of those burned calories. It also measures the distance that you walk but, as other reviewers have noted, it's probably best to walk a measured distance several times to get the most accurate "average" stride distance for your own personalization (I believe that you can set your stride from 1'-0" to 4'-0", in 1" increments).
In addition, what do you get for $30? Well, you get the Health Management Software which is a package that not only integrates pedometer data, but blood pressure data as well should you opt to purchase that through Omron (sold separately). It's pretty neat because it will keep track of your steps (both aerobic and non-aerobic) and display the information in any number of ways (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.). If you want, you can even set goals for yourself and see if you achieve them!
This is definitely a huge 5-star product. This pedometer is so much better than its nearest competitor for $10 less, especially the very weak pedometer offerings that you find at Sports Authority or Big 5 Sports. I would highly recommend it as part of your exercise regimen.
