Quick Opinion March 19, 2008 My experience on Alli has been great. I've been using it since Nov 2007 and have reached my goal weight. The side effects mentioned by some haven't effected me therefore I have to wonder if the people who have experience discharge, etc were actually following the diet plan or if they continued to eat high fat diets? I will continue to use Alli to maintain my weight.
Not sure yet if it works January 14, 2008 10 out of 12 found this comment useful.
I'm not yet sure if I like Alli. It took 3 days for the first effects to show up, which resulted in a quick change of clothes. So my advice is to follow the rules and switch to a low-fat diet for 3 days before you start taking it. Then I lost about 1.5 lbs in 10 days. Not great, but not bad either. Then the confusing part... in the last couple of days, with no diet changes, I went back up to my original weight. Water weight? I don't know yet.
Now for some facts. You'll be shocked at how much fat you've been consuming, because you'll see an oil slick in the toilet. The oil is orange and smelly, and it sticks to the toilet bowl. (I have to clean mine 3 times a day.) Alli works in two ways. First, you aren't absorbing as many calories through fat. Second, you have bowel movements up to 5 times a day. (All that oil that you aren't absorbing lubes the digestive tract.)
The Mayo clinic says that Orlistat produces an average weight loss of 6 lbs per year. Because Alli is a weaker version of Orlistat, they predict a weight loss of 3 lbs per year. That's not a lot of weight for the money you'll spend on Alli.
Want the same effect for less? Use jam on your toast instead of butter. Switch to fat-free sour cream, salad dressings, and cheese. Have one piece of bacon, not two. Eat chicken, not beef. Scramble your eggs, don't fry them. Eat veggie pizza, not pepperoni.
Bottom line... I'm going to keep taking Alli until my current supply runs out and then evaluate if it was worth the money.
6 days and almost 7 pounds lighter! January 12, 2008 9 out of 10 found this comment useful.
Hello, I started taking this product on Monday. Today is the Saturday after, only 6 days later.
I have been doing EXACTLY what the book says to do, by eating a low fat diet, (mostly frozen weight watcher meals), Exercising (so far 30-45 min on the treadmill 4x this week), and taking one capsule with each meal 3x a day.
I have had ZERO problems or "treatment effects".
I am 6.75 pounds lighter than I was on Monday!
I'm sure some of it is water weight, as they say.. but still.. I'm very impressed by the results. I'm sure that the weight loss will slow down next week, but you never know... we shall see!
Just thought I'd share that, and also.. the fact, that I bought my supply at Costco. Costco has the 150 count starter kit for around $65, much less than on here. It's definitely worth the trip to Costco!
Alli has helped me get some quick results for ONE of my New Year's Resolutions. I already have noticed the difference... but EXERCISE has alot to do with that as well! My blood pressure is lower and my blood sugar seems to have stabilized more!
When you purchase this starter kit, you get small booklets filled with info about Recipes, Calories in foods, Exercise plans, etc, but the BEST PART is a code that lets you into to use the FULL Alli Website. I program websites myself, and I was very impressed with the Alli website, and how it fully supports you through your weight loss. This website is similar to what Weight Watcher CHARGES for access to their tools online, but it's FREE with your starter kit purchase. Tools for planning meals, calculating how many calories and fat grams that YOU PERSONALLY should eat every day, it even prints out a shopping list for the grocery store! The website has tools for planning out workouts and cardio training. It even has places too chat with other Alli users, which means that the website is a small support community! Very well done Alli! Wow!
Alli is not an answer to itself... Exercise, and the Low-Fat Diet is a MUST!
If you eat too much fat, I've heard horror stories about people losing it in their pants. So you have to stick to the plan! And actually... the thought of crapping my pants, is a good stimulus to not eat fattening food! So for me, it actually has helped me stay away from fattening food when I'm "in the moment of temptation".
Good luck to everyone!
Happy New Year. Doug :)
There are MUCH better ways to loose weight January 12, 2008 0 out of 11 found this comment useful.
Hello my friends,
I have looked over the comments here and elsewhere. Please save your money on any "pill" for weight loss. The results that I have seen are barely on par with just eating the right foods, getting proper rest and exercise. The answer is not in a pill. It never has been.
The pharmaceuticals are making billions a year trying to sell you something to make you feel better or to fix something. The food industry has marketed tons of "quick fix" foods for over 20 years to save you time. They are all in cahoots to make you sick so that they can make you better. And it has been BIG business for a long time. I say "ENOUGH" to these big businesses. Think about it. We all have been "Programmed" by commercials. I say; it's time for all of us to take back control of our lives!
Dr. Hyman has written a book called UltraMetabolism. Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss It works! It works, because the information contained in his book explains what different fats and added ingredients do to you. He breaks down nutrition to the core and tells you how to shop for the right foods and what to stay away from. It is going to require an attitude change and lifestyle change. It's going to require planning for the busy household who relies on meals coming out of a box or can; that has a nutrition label on it.
My friends; big businesses and the government have not done their job to make us healthy and wealthy and wise. Please do not rely on them! Their goal is to get financially FAT at our expense.
I Highly and STRONGLY recommend Dr. Hyman's work to change you life. There is no quick fix on the market. Each of us must take back our lives on our own terms. It starts by becoming educated.
Take care each and everyone of you.

Alli Linked to Colon Cancer October 12, 2007 3 out of 9 found this comment useful.
I came accross an article that links Alli to pre-cancerous lesions in the colons of mice. According to Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group, "while it is not known whether these pre-cancerous lesions will lead to colon cancer, he and other cancer experts do not believe use of the weight-loss drug is a risk worth taking." I agree! I would rather find other ways to lose weight than risk my life taking Alli!
