Stressful bath time December 2, 2008 This looked like a a great tub to purchase. The sling was very appealing to me. Initially I thought the tub was great. It fit great over the kitchen sink, and my newborn cuddled nicely in the sling. However once sponge bathing was over and I began to add water to the tub, my baby was slipping out of the sling. No matter what adjustment I made to the sling, it was not working to keep my baby in place. I took the sling out and there was no improvement. The shape of the tub is so awkward. The water comes up high near the baby's mouth, and I am always concerned about water being swallowed. I added a teddy bear sponge to the bath and that helped out minimally. Maybe once my baby is sitting up on his own, the toddler side of the tub will work, but I am not waiting until then. I am getting rid of it right now. Bath time should be fun and right now bath time is just stressful.
You might not need the sling for your newborn November 13, 2008 I have never used the sling because I gave my baby sponge baths until his stupm fell, which was after week four. My baby is a month old and he is too heavy for the sling now (it touches the bath tub even if I set it very high) but he fits inthe tub nicely and he seems to be confortable, no signs of skin damage or anything (which I read about in one review). I feel that sponge baths are safer when you are dealing with newborns, there is no risk of babies sliping out of your hands! and trying to keep that stump dry... I would buy this item again but not the sling.
Needs improvements November 7, 2008 This tub definitely has it's advantages and disadvantages. The sling feature for a newborn is great. It's soft and supportive for your newborn and makes it easy to give your baby a sponge bath while you're waiting for the umbilical stump to fall off. That's pretty much all I like about it. Now let me tell you about what I don't like...
1. It fits on any KITCHEN sink, but if you want to give your baby a bath in the bathroom, you're going to find yourself bending over the tub just as you would if you gave your baby a bath in the big tub. I have the oval shaped bathroom sinks and there's no way to sit this tub on the sink surface with any stability because one of the edges will always slip into the sink. If they had made the bottom flat despite the curvature of the top, this problem would have been avoided.
2. Like other reviewers have mentioned, once your baby is big enough for the reclined side but not yet big enough for the upright side, your baby will slip down over the hump that is supposed to hold him in place. Not only does this look uncomfortable, but it makes it hard to keep your baby's face from sliding in the water once they're big enough to roll and kick but not big enough to sit up.
3. Washing your baby's privates is a nightmare. I have to get my son to stand in the tub while holding one arm so I can wash his privates with my other hand. This wouldn't be so bad in the big people tub where the surface is flat, but the hump in this tub gets in the way where he can't stand with as much stability so he's constantly slipping. They didn't put the non-slip surface on the entire base of the tub, just on one side of the base. And it would have to be the narrower side where there isn't room for both of his feet. They could have solved my complaint #2 and #3 if they had just put the nonslip surface on the whole base.
Maybe complaint #2 will be better once he's big enough to sit up, but complaint #1 and #3 are always going to be issues. I recommend this tub for infants and possibly for toddlers, but not for babies between the two stages. I am planning on purchasing a bath sling to use until he's big enough for the upright side of this tub.
excellent October 16, 2008 I have purchased this tub 4 times for 4 different births. Everyone loves it so much that it is my now standard present for anyone expecting.
Great infant tub! October 10, 2008 The sling is the best feature about this tub! When you're bathing an infant, especially when they are only one or two months old, you can feel that they are securely held in the sling and aren't going to slip down or to the side in an awkward position.
I was never able to get it to fit in the sink because the water handles in the sink prevented it from being secure. It felt lopsided and unsafe. I usually placed it in the bathtub because I liked to unplug it as I was finishing bathing my daughter so that I could rinse her with clean water and not have her sit too long in the soapy water.
Purchased another one recently as a baby shower gift and the mom to be loved it. Someone had given her the tub she had placed on her list and she ended up returning that one and kept this one.
