5 out of 5 stars Therabeads heat pack   January 6, 2009
I have a severe scoliosis and use the heat pack frequently. I have had one for years and love it. That is why I give it as a gift to other people who could benefit.

2 out of 5 stars Expected more... but i don't hate it   November 22, 2008
I think this pad heats up nice and quickly (2-3 min). It is nice and toasty when it comes out and goes on my back... But the moment I sit down to relax with it, the warmth starts to fade. The real deep heat lasted only a few minutes... AFter that, barely warm for another 15 min or so. I expected it to start hotter and stay hotter.

1 out of 5 stars Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12x16 Heat Pack w/ Cover   November 5, 2008
As a former college athlete who routinely used hydroculators for muscle/tendon therapy, the Therabeads was a big let down. Unlike some other reviews I read before buying this product, there was no smell. But I have to microwave the pad for 2 minutes on each side for a total of 4 minutes to get the pad hot enough for use, NOT the 1 minute promised. The pad stays hot for only about 15 minutes, and I'm told in the instructions to wait 2 hours before reheating. This is not a serious tool for healing muscles. I should have bought a real hydroculator pad(s) that releases significantly more moist heat, the kind that deeply penetrates the muscle to increase blood flow and induce healing. The Therabeads pad releases a minimal amount of moist heat that fails to do the job in my opinion.

My advice is to buy the real hydroculator pads (buy several), spend a little more time and effort to heat them on the stove in hot water (or buy a hydroculatoe heater), wrap them in a towel (as is done routinely for muscle therapy among collegiate athletes) and you won't regret it. Therabeads is for those that have never experienced hydroculator pads used by atheletic trainers to heal athletes with injuries. Therabeads rates a 1 on a scale of 10 as to effectiveness compared with hydroculator pads.

5 out of 5 stars Best Heating Pad EVER   March 24, 2008

This is the only heating pad my husband wanted after heart surgery. If you have tendonitis, you will find the moist heat penetrates so much better than regular heat. As for the "smell," after some use, it needs to be washed. I throw the entire thing into the washer on hot water, no detergent, and it is good as new and ready to go again.

5 out of 5 stars Still using after 7 years   January 1, 2008

My husband and I have been using the Therabeads moist heat packs for 7 years now. We use them daily and find that they last 2 - 3 years. I am just now replacing a set we have had for some time. We have tried other brands, but always return to this product.

I am not sure why the other poster is complaining of a smell as I don't have a smell with mine. I can tell you that I only heat mine for about 4 minutes in the microwave and it gets very hot in that period of time.
