5 out of 5 stars If you care about your health this is the book to read   August 6, 2005

T. Colin Campbell has the experience with research to support his information. We as consumers need to get smart about our health. Doctors don't have any cures for disease. They have drugs to mask the symptoms and surgery to cut out organs. We need whole food nutrition for our body to heal itself from disease. Read this book. It will open your eyes.

The China Study is probably the best book available describing the benefits of a plant-based diet. Dr. Campbell is a solid scientist who found himself driven toward a plant-based diet by the compelling nature of the data produced in his research. Being neither preachy nor pseudo-spiritual in tone, this book is a gift to anyone wondering about the science behind a vegan diet-especially someone with a critical mind.

While the book is built around the results of his many years of research on diet and health, it also tells the fascinating story of a scientist whose beliefs are shaken by what he learns. In the book, Dr. Campbell takes you on a journey back along the path of scientific data that led him to a 180-degree turn in his views on the value of a plant-based diet. What I appreciated most was his explanations of what nutritional studies can and cannot tell us, as well as how to sift through the claims of the proponents of fad diets.

As an added bonus, Campbell gives a disturbing "behind the scenes" view of the machinations involved in the development of government nutritional guidelines. This, in itself, is worth the read.

The presentation of this comprehensive 25 year study on diet is convincing, detailed and credible. A nutritional breakthrough for people on the typical Western diet of high animal protein and animal based fats. It convinces one to pursue a plant based
diet to enjoy better health and prevent the common "old age" diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, alzheimers, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, joint pain, cancer and a whole list of other later in life developments that can never have a chance to activate or express if denied the enviornment in which to flourish.

3 out of 5 stars China Study.....an overkill   August 2, 2005

A well documented study by the author justifying the importance of a vegetarian diet. I feel the content of the text could have been reduced in half and still met its mission. I would support having the book included as a reading for high school and college students in their health and/or nutrition classes.

This book lays out the real data from nutritional research done over the years and has no agenda and nothing to sell. No fad diet or unsubstantiated claims. Campbell references everything to actual research performed. Check it out.
