3 out of 5 stars Update version needed   May 4, 2008
I was disappointed, the APA was incompatible for MS Word 2007. It will work with MS 2003.

2 out of 5 stars Save your money and wait until an new version comes out   March 10, 2008
I purchased Style Helper 5.1 sometime within the last year. When I first read about it and purchased the product, I thought it was really cool and I looked forward to using it. Surely, this would minimize a lot of the effort one puts into writing research papers. I've just recently begun using it to any great degree. I have to tell you, I'm not very impressed with it. There are some features that work okay, but I don't find it very user friendly or intuitive. I've spent several hours "playing around" with it just to learn how to use it. I find the reference/citation features less than ideal. Specifically, when adding a reference you are limited to the reference types within the program. If you want to customize one, there's no option in the list called "other"
or "customize". Then, once you add them to the database, good luck removing them! With the use of the Internet and all the variations of research one does these days, Style Helper does not offer newer reference types. I just emailed the APA folks to see if there were any updates to 5.1. I was told that there are no updates. Some people may find Style Helper useful, but yesterday, I finally quit using it and went back to building my research paper the old fashion way, using Microsoft Word and using the APA text book. I hope the next version has a few more bells and whistles. This version is unimpressive.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible software   February 15, 2008
It took me 15 minutes to install Microsoft NET ...(luckily I'm an experienced computer user), half an hour to enable its macros in vain, and half an hour trying to close it. Finally I had to resort to Windows Task Manager to kill the program. What a nightmare!

1 out of 5 stars Virtually unusable   December 13, 2007
I echo the other comments that the program is very difficult to figure out. More important (to me) there was zero support when I had questions. APA said it was not their product, that it came from an independent vendor. The vendor simply didn't provide support. Although they told me that a word file could be imported into the program, I never was able to do it. I was never able to use it for a single paper. Before I gave up on it, it stopped booting up on my computer. Again, support couldn't offer any help. It was totally useless for me.

I recommend PERRLA. It's cheaper and it works in tandem with your MS Word.

Download it at www.perrla.com That's it. Much easier than this program and so so so much less expensive.
