3 out of 5 stars Seems to work, with a little help from Releev   November 27, 2008
I got my cold sore, Wednesday, 730am, and by the time I detected it, it was too late. It was already forming into a large blister on the left side of my bottom lip.

I put on Abreva about every 2-3 hours throughout the day, and the blister didn't seem to infect any more areas (which is good), but the blister did seem to grow outwardly, filling with "something". I thought if I went to bed, it'd be dried up in the morning. Low and behold, I wake up at 930am the next day, and the blister had turn white and looked HORRIBLE. I panicked, broke out my bottle of Releev (which I used in the past, didn't seem to speed things up, but dries the coldsore like nothing else) and put it on.

Like 10 minutes later, I looked in the mirror, and the blister had popped! I soaked it up, there was a small lesion left over, but it looked great! Now I have a small scab on my lip, which is way better than what it looked like before.

All in all, it seems that the Abreva was a good call on stopping the virus from infecting other cells, and then when all there was left was the main blister, the Releev took over to dry the stuff up and safely break the blister for me.

Now I'm just using the Releev to finish the job up, and hopefully, that'll be it.

A 2 day coldsore...I can "almost" live with that.

5 out of 5 stars It works!   November 11, 2008
Heals cold scores quickly and even stops them from fully forming if applied early on.

2 out of 5 stars not sure if it helps   November 7, 2008
My cold sores are rare and pop up without any tingling. Once it pops up...not much you can do or abreva. I find regular toothpaste helping better than this.Abreva does not relieve pain either.

5 out of 5 stars Better than prescription   August 27, 2008
I've been dealing with cold sores as long as I can remember and am always on the look out for any product that will help me battle them. I've tried just about every product generally available, and some prescription drugs. In the end, Abreva has always worked best for me. I always keep two tubes on hand. One tube is usually enough to make it through one breakout - sometimes I need around 1-1/2. It stops me from breaking out if I apply when I feel the "tingle", and is usually resolved fairly quickly so I don't have to use a lot. If I apply after a sore breaks out, the Abreva seems to pull the pus out of the sores faster so the sore can dry out and heal faster (other products just seem to fill the sores more and it never goes away).

The only thing I can think of to improve on this product is if they could make a way to make the gel clear/less noticeable. It's a bit of a hassle when you need to use this product and you have to present yourself in public places because there will inevitably (at least for me) be some evidence of having some weird white paste slathered all over your mouth... but I suppose it's always more noticeable when you're the one with the sore than to those who aren't and not really giving it a second thought.

I recommend a try if you have cold sores. It's not a cure-all, but it's the best of what's available.

Yes, Abreva will stop an up-bust of cold sores any time you apply this product when you get that tingling sensation. I have been using it for the past 6 month and it has worked well. The problem is that those white points on my lips have become bumps. Before using this product I would have to stretch my lips in order to see those white points where cold sores grow from. Now my lips are now permanently bumpy that I am even ashamed to kiss my wife on her lips afraid she my feel the ruff sources of my lips. I say, this product has worsened my situation and would not recommend it to anyone.
