5 out of 5 stars Mine is still going strong after 6 years!   November 27, 2005

For those complaining about short-lived units: the key to longevity with this (or any Ni-Cad battery device) is not to leave it on the charger constantly. Only use the charger after the battery is drained. Mine gets recharged maybe once every 2 weeks. Otherwise it sits in the drawer like an old-fashioned toothbrush. Another trick is to take teflon tape (used by plumbers) and seal tightly the hold-down cap of the brush head - this prevents water from rusting out the magnets under the brush head.

I am on my second Sonicare and I got my first when I was pregnant with my 10 year old! Cleans great! People speak of the cost. This is cheap compared to the investment in dental work if not used. These don't even compare to a regular tooth brush. Make the investment in your teeth and you will be thankful.

1 out of 5 stars This is a disposable toothbrush   October 1, 2005

I was surprise to discovered all Sonicare toothbrushes are disposable item. Its battery cannot be replace what so ever. Like any other electronic products, its battery and IC board are toxic and can only be dispose by your local electronic waste program. Mine lasted about 6 months, at this rate...we're going to end up tones of these in our landfill. It is airresponsible to produce products like this. If I had known about this I would never have bought it.

Forget about this hi-tech marketing stuff. Use a regular toothbrush and get your teeth clean regularly is the best prevention.

The 4100 appears to have been discontinued but is still available thorugh Amazon & Wal-Mart. But at Wal-Mart it remains $10.00 higher in price, plus sales tax. This is my 3rd Sonicare 4100. They last 2+ years. But my dental checkups have improved greatly. The vibrating head does wonders in removing plaque. Use it 2X a day for best results. This is well worth the price, and I still find it better than Oral-B.
