Seems good in the short term December 24, 2008 Seems good in the short term. I think the usual electeric brushes are equally good.
Never a conventional brush again! December 24, 2008 I have been using a Sonicare for at least 6 years now and I would never trust brushing my teeth with a conventional toothbrush again! I have converted my fiance to Sonicare also. He has become a believer! Great service and speedy shipping! Will be ordering all replacement heads from here from now on....
I love this toothbrush! December 22, 2008 I was skeptical about getting an electric toothbrush but my hygenist recommended that I try one (I have 2 crowns and am looking at a 3rd and I'm only 32). She said she liked the Sonicare better than the Oral B due to the different motion it makes. I'd tried the cheap-o Crest SpinBrush and hated it because of the way it felt in my mouth so I was soured on the whole concept. But, after hearing her recommendation and reading the reviews online, I figured it was worth a try (and since I had a $100 GC to wallyworld it'd be free).
I've used it for a month now and I must say I love it. It only took a day or two to get used to the vibration and learn to keep it angled the right way (if you let the plastic part of the head hit your teeth it is a bit jarring). The head seems smaller and the handle is longer so it seems like I can get to all the nooks & cranies of my teeth better. I've always had trouble getting to the far back and I have a "pocket" where gunk collects that I've had trouble getting clean with regular toothbrushes -- with the Sonicare I just move it around my mouth and everything -- including the far back and gunky area -- gets cleaned up without effort or extra focus. As an extra bonus, it seems like my teeth are whiter... ^_^ I'm interested to see how my next check-up turns out.
The only complaint I have is that the handle is a bit heavy and chunky. I am a smaller person and while it's OK, I'd prefer to have a smaller/narrower, lighter handle. I think the higher end model might be like that so when this one dies (hopefully not for a long time) I'll splurge & get that model.
All-in-all, I'd definately recommed this for anyone looking for an electric toothbrush and tell anyone who's tried the other brand and hated it to give this one a go.
Great for kids. December 20, 2008 Those cheap electric toothbrush don't stand a chance against the Sonicare toothbrushes. My children's teeth have never been cleaner. My 4 year old uses it without help from me and her dentist marvels at how she has no plaque. I'm sure they think I help her, but I don't.
My other Sonicare is the Intelliclean. Compared to that, Essence doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but in some ways, it's better.
TIMER
There is a two minute timer, after which the toothbrush turns off. That's all that's necessary. The Intelliclean beeps every 30 seconds to signal the user to move to another quadrant. The kids don't understand that concept very well, so brushing until the toothbrush turns off is all they need.
BRUSHHEAD HOLDER
That is a useful feature. The Intelliclean only had one brushhead holder that tipped over all the time. This one comes with a brushhead holder that holds two brushheads at once in a solid, untippable position.
EASY TO CLEAN AND KEEP CLEAN
Unlike Intelliclean, this one doens't have an area within the handle for saliva and toothpast to collect. Much more sanitary! To clean, simply wash and wipe down the handle and brush.
CHANGING BRUSHEADS
The Intelliclean needed to be pulled off and pushed on. The kids had trouble with that and would squeeze toothpaste all over the place. Essence is screwed on and off, which they can do on their own. The absence of toothpaste connected to the brushhead means no toothpaste accidents.
TOOTHPASTE
Unlike the Intelliclean, the Essence doesn't dispense toothpaste. That's actually a plus, because it's not easy to find those specially made tubes of paste. For the Essence, any toothpaste will do.
CHARGING
There is a base to put the toothbrush on. Very easy to use. Sometimes, the kids leave the toothbrush off the base for a day, but it still works when they finally get back to it. It keeps its charge for at least that long.
SPEED
Unlike Intelliclean, Essence only has one speed. That's all that's necessary for my kids. When there are multiple speeds, the kids play around with it instead of brushing their teeth.
IN SUMMARY
For a good, basic sonic toothbrush, choose Essence. Its simple, no frills design is especially suitable for children.
Sonicare is special December 12, 2008
I am well pleased with my Sonicare. It is definitely having a salutatory effect on my teeth and especially on my gums.
It was disappointing to see Target carried the identical product for $49.99.
