5 out of 5 stars Sunbeam 756-5 Heating pad   February 11, 2008

The Sunbeam 765-5 heating pad works as it should: turn it on, and it comes on and stays on until you turn it off. Most heating pads sold today automatically shut off after a period of time. None of the manufacturer's literature on the Amazon.com website addressed this key point. But one of the reviewers said the 765-5 did not automatically shut off, so I bought 10 of them. They all work fine.

Previously I had bought 10 Soft Heat HP110 heat pads. They worked fine, but were destroyed over time during domestic problems in the feral cat condominium building in our back yard, where the pads are used to keep the kitties warm during the winter months. Automatic shutoff would render the heat pad useless for this purpose. In fact for just about any purpose. But if you want a heating pad for a paralyzed or unconscious person in a heated facility, and you will not be around to shut off the heat pad, and the patient doesn't really need a heat pad, automatic shut off is the way to go. Besides, when it automatically shuts off it saves electricity!

Excellent heating pad for the price. 3 level settings to choose from assures the right amount of heat. Very happy with the item.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed - Must have gotten a bad one   January 24, 2008

Based on the great reviews for this heating pad I bought the king size version, but it doesn't get very warm at all. Like a couple of reviewers have said, "I must have gotten a bad one. " Actually, I couldn't find the king size one listed when I came back today to write this review. Are they all defective now? I have a Kaz Soft Heat (with auto shut off) that gets nice and hot, but I was looking for a continuous heat pad. The Kaz also has a much softer plush cover. The cat and I fight over that one. She doesn't even get near this Sunbeam. I've never returned anything to Amazon, but this one is going back. My back (and neck) need more heat and relief.

5 out of 5 stars I got it for my cat   January 17, 2008

I got this for my cat because the house is cold during wintertime. I put it on a cushion and turn it to medium. She likes to sit on it. Her little feet and tummy are warm.

There are two notable details about this heating pad. One thing that I found disturbing was that it had a strong plastic smell. After a couple of days, it went away. Another thing, on a better note, it takes a few minutes to heat up, but it does give nice heat.

I bought two of the large pads and this standard size. I bought this one for my personal use. Nice, quick heating. Easy to use slide control. This one does not have the sponge for wet heat, but that was okay. The 5 yr. guarantee is good also. Very long cord means I have don't have to dig out extension cords to use! I would think anyone would be pleased with this heating pad. This DOES NOT have that annoying auto-shut off.
