great product July 27, 2008 I am a home health peds nurse and this is a great tool to rule out ear infections,9 out of 10 times correct! All moms of infants or small children should get one of theese, could save a bunch of visits to MD office or late night ER visits,of course this is never meant to take the place of good medical care.
Great... When it works. July 22, 2008 I used it on my 2 boys a few times. They didn't have any ear infections so I don't know if it really works. But it stopped working after about a year. It kept giving me the "error" indication. I should have saved my money for the co-pay for the doctor's visit instead of buying this!
accurate if used correctly July 14, 2008 I have found this device to be very accurate if used correctly. Initially, I simply placed it in my daughter's ear and it always returned green. However, after reading the directions, I discovered that you should pull up and out on the ear during insertion and, viola! I usually do it 2 or 3 times, and each time it shows similar results (sometimes varies but always in the same range--i.e. 4 one time and 5 the next but still in the red zone.) I have brought her to the doctor a couple of times based on results, even telling the doctor which ear was affected, and each time the doctor confirmed. Now, I simply begin applying liquid silver to her ears at the first sign, and no need to even go to the office (very helpful since she gets ear infections almost once a month). However, this device is not meant for babies under 6 months and you should never replace your instincts.
Do Not Bother! June 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this comment useful.
My doctor told me this thing was a joke and to not believe it. My daughter did not let us put it in her ear at all and when we finally did get it in, it caused wax to be pushed further into her ear. DO not waste your money. Our daughter finally started playing with it on her own while we changed her, but still would not let us use it on her.
Horrible May 12, 2008 My wife and I purchased this for our 1-year old, who has had frequent ear infections. This device is a complete hoax, and complete waste of $50. Save your money and use it on physician co-pays.
Specifically, the device was never able to give a consistent reading, nor were the results ever verifiable with a doctor's opinion.
Finally, the device stopped working and would only register an "Error" after 3 months of ownership.
Don't buy it.
