Good thermometer July 12, 2007 1 out of 1 found this comment useful.
The main problem with this thermometer is that it has no backlight. While the memory feature means that you don't need to see the temperature immediately, for curiosity's sake, it would be nice to be able to see the temperature right away during the dark early morning hours.

This is a basic thermometer. It beeps when it's ready to be read, but it does not have a light. I would recommend getting a thermometer with a light...if you can find one. It's much easier, I had one several yrs. ago.
Basal Body thermometers are hard to find anymore; many drugstores don't carry them. That's why I ordered this one on-line. I wanted it right away, so I didn't pay much attention to the features. All of the product features are as indicated from the maker.

It doesn't cost much and lets you chart accurately so based on that alone this is worth buying.
~~~Some people on here have complained that it takes too long to take your temp. I totally dissagree. It is a few minutes, maybe 5 minutes max and that is only if your temp. is at its highest which takes longer. My Dr said to keep the thermometer under the tongue for at least 2 minutes so if this was any quicker I wouldn't feel comfortable that it was accurate.
PRO's: *Cheap($) *Accurate *It beeps when finished *It beeps when turned on/off *Memory recall
CON's: *I though the button was hard to push, BUT I am always still able to turn it on/off *It isn't backlit, BUT it also doesn't claim to be *The memory recall you have to hold down the hard to push button pretty hard and the temp only lasts there seconds before dissapearing, BUT you can turn it off then on and do the recall again if you miss it the first time.
I take my temp in the dark so the beep on is great and I am always half asleep or fall back asleep with it in my mouth so the beep when finished is great then I can turn it off and get another beep. And since I am always half asleep, I would never remember my temp if it were backlit anyhow. I ususally wait till I get home from work to recall my temp.
****For anyone TTC, you cannot rely on taking your temps alone to know when you are fertile. Most Women probably already know that but I had no clue till a couple months ago when I read the book- "Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health", I recommmend it to every Woman, especially if you are trying to get pregnant.
Gets the job done June 24, 2007 Overall a good product. I like that it reads to 100th's rather than 10ths (gives more info and I can always round off), and the lack of light doesn't bother me since I always have to get up to go to the bathroom anyway and can read it in the night light. I can't comment definatively on the memory feature, I only used it once to test it out and it seemed to work OK. I don't mind the beeps, either, since I'm a little sleepy usually so the few beeps at the end makes sure I don't miss it. Only thing that could be improved is that it seems to take awhile to read.
Review from California June 1, 2007 I have found this theremometer to be very useful. I particularly like the fact that it takes a short amount of time to register my temp, and unlike previous reviews, the beeping noise it makes is not bothersome to me. Since I'm supposed to take my temp fist thing in the morning anyway, I find that the beep actually helps me get up and start my day. The only thing I wish was that it showed my temps to the closest tenth of a degree instead of hundreth since that is what I'm told is most accurate when trying to follow a natural birth control plan. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good, inexpensive basal thermometer.
