A near perfect consumer product August 11, 2008 I have two small children so I often have a need for an accurate thermometer that isn't uncomfortable. This is it.
The electronic stick thermometers are too unwieldy for an 18 month old to deal with, and their numbers are too hard to read. The old fashioned liquid thermomteters take forever to get to an accurate temp.
These are easy for a small child to hold under their tongue, announce a read in about 10 seconds, and are consistent and accurate (compared against an old genuine mercury thermometer)
An excellent product, highly recommended. I now give them as gifts at baby showers.
Not Accurate, but comfortable February 24, 2007 Great design, comfortable, but like many of the "new generation" thermometers, it pops up with it's reading within a few seconds and the metal tip still feels cold in your mouth. The readings are way off.
I have 3 other thermometers that all read within .1 of each other, and this one is about a full degree off (usually .8 high). One of my other ones is a mercury fever themometer, and a basal mercury (only reads to 100 so easier to see small changes) and an older basal digital that takes 30 seconds or so to come up with a reading very close to the mercury ones.
Althought the Timex one doesn't say "predictive" it seems like some of the other "few second digitals" that do say "predictive" in terms of predicting what the temperature would be (before it fully warms up to that temperature). I would pay 3 times as much for an accurate thermometer, what good is something that guesses at your temperature?
I called the seller, they were very nice. I followed their recommendation and checked the battery on a meter - read very strong. So it wasn't the battery. The seller refunded with no hassles. Too bad this thing doesn't give accurate readings, I love the design as the other digitals are hard to keep in your mouth while you wait for the temp. (I monitor thyroid meds with temp, so I use a thermometer 3x a day).
Timex AccuCurve 30 second oral thermometer February 17, 2007 I would recommend this thermometer for anyone with children. The curved mouth piece simply hangs over the lip without having to be placed under the tongue. Great product
AccuCurve hard to find but worth searching out July 3, 2006 6 out of 6 found this comment useful.
Our family has used one of these unusual looking thermometers for about two years. It is probably the easiest thermometer for anyone to use as you don't have to hold it in your mouth - - it just curves itself over your lower front teeth and the temperature probe sits comfortably just under the edge of your tongue. We misplaced ours and I've been to every store in town looking for one. I couldn't find one so I've purchased four other digital thermometers over the past couple months and we've put them all in the back of a drawer to be used only if we can't find another AccuCurve. I found the AccuCurve on the Internet tonight so we will purchase a couple more AccuCurve thermometers today!
Wish it worked November 14, 2004 I can already tell this will be a great product - My 3 year old took to it like a duck to water and I (will) get the satisfaction of a much more reliable temp than axillary, now that she refuses a rectal temp.
However, product did not work out of the box and I wasted lots of time and energy trying to find a replacement battery (seemed like that SHOULD be easier than sending it back and waiting for a new one.) However, the part # doesn't seem to exist in the battery section and now (3 days after receipt and daughter's illness has passed) I am left to try the suggestion of another poster - using a battery that does exist. Too bad I cannot give it more stars, but this has been a VERY frustrating start.
