1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for children   May 29, 2008
This thermometer is not nearly accurate when I take temperature of my kids (always 1-2 degreees below). For adults it works ok though.

5 out of 5 stars Finally, a reliable thermometer!   May 21, 2008
The other day, I got out our Vicks thermometer, an older cheaper model, to take my temperature. Alas, the battery was (again) dead. The button battery was of an unusual type not available at any store in town, and had to be ordered over the internet. I wanted to know my temperature sooner than six-to-twelve days, so I went out and bought this beauty. More expensive, yes, but this one takes two AAA batteries, available at any grocery store if you don't already have couple around the house, and has a battery compartment with a simple swing-open door that can be opened without the use of tools. (I once had to throw away a thermometer because the screw-off battery cover was stuck shut.) Finally, I have a thermometer that will be there for me every time I need it. But not forever -- the fine print of the "Lifetime Guarantee" show that it's actually just a one-year warranty.

1 out of 5 stars Worthless!   April 8, 2008

It really gets 0 stars, but Amazon requires 1 minimum.

I Just returned from my doctors office where I learned that my temperature was a full degree above the normal to very low-grade fever I thought I had, which made all the difference in the world for some important treatment we had planned.

I brought it along and did 3 side-by-side comparisons to their professional grade thermometer. It was off on every reading.

I bought this because it has a slick little interface and had reasonable customer reviews (including those below). But, this is first and foremost a diagnostic device which should be above everything else, ACCURATE - and its not, period.

Now in the garbage can in my house, and thats a shame because I just bought it from Amazon a little more than a week ago.

5 out of 5 stars Totally Agree - Fast and Accurate   April 22, 2007

This thermometer is the best choice. We have a family of 5 ranging from baby to 42 year old and the Vicks pro style thermometer is extremely fast (for baby's sake) and accurate (for everybody's sake).

get it and disregard the other thermometer choices.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a thermometer that's fast AND accurate...   March 27, 2007

I've tried a few digital thermometers, but this one is the best for the money. I found out really quick after my son was born that I needed a thermometer that was fast. 60 seconds is too long when you're dealing with a squirmy and sick baby. This one takes about 10 seconds and it seems to be fairly consistent with the readings. I had an ear thermometer and it gave me a different reading every time... I hated it! I recommend this one for fast and consistent readings.
