Product Description ThermoScan ear thermometer measures temperature within seconds from the ear. The ear is an accurate site to measure temperature because the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control area of the brain. Now you can take your baby's temperature with incredible accuracy in one second flat!. Measuring the infrared heat created by the eardrum and surrounding area, the Braun ThermoScan takes a total of eight different measurements and displays the highest reading. All readings are display in easy-to-read LCD format. A beep signals the end of the cycle and a memory holds the day's last eight readings for comparison. Lens filter is used for increased accuracy and is easily removed thanks to the lens filter ejector. Set includes: 1 protective cover, 21 lens filters and 2 lithium batteries.

Braun ThermoScan Plus August 8, 2008 Great product... it requires some skill to operate but yields consistent infant temperatures time after time.
Ease of Use April 22, 2007 I just purchased this thermometer (4520). I decided to buy it due to the difficulty in using a standard oral thermometer. I find it to be much easier and faster than a standard oral thermometer. It appears to be accurate as measured against a standard oral thermometer and much quicker. It is also easier to read and retains the last eight readings in memory. All in all, I am satisfied with this purchase.
Twenty clams for a case? September 10, 2006 This model's about twenty bucks more expensive than several comparable, with the addition of a carrying/protective case instead of a protective head cover. Unless you're making house calls, that seems odd.
Useless March 25, 2006 3 out of 3 found this comment useful.
I teach Kindergarten so I manage to get almost every cold that goes through my classroom (I haven't totally built up my teacher immunities yet). Anyway, I figured that this would be a great thermometer to have because when you have a stuffy nose, a regular oral thermometer is torture. Well, I can never get a consistent reading, even when I'm healthy. I've tried the ear tug in 1,000 different directions with no success. Also, the thermometer reads high no matter when I take it. I got very concerned when thought I had a temperature of over 102 according to the thermoscan when in reality, it was only about 100. I would not recommend this thermometer at all!
Don't be without one of these February 5, 2006 8 out of 10 found this comment useful.
I have had a Braun Thermoscan PLUS ear thermometer for more than a year now to go with my adorable blond two year old chaos maker. It has made my life so much easier. Just a couple of seconds in the ear, a beep, and it has a reading of his temperature.
We pop this in our diaper bag if were going to be away over night. We just came back from a week in Orlando at Disney World (we live in Seattle). Boy was I glad that we had this nifty little bugger along. The third day my son and I both came down with a serious throat infection requiring antibiotics. We were able to repeatedly check the nine members of our family traveling with us in just a couple of seconds each.
When my son is sick he comes to us and says "Beep Beep Momma Papa." It is his way of telling us that he thinks he needs us to check his temperature. He doesn't mind at all.
With an under the tongue or under the arm thermometer my son couldn't sit still long enough for me to be sure I had gotten an actual reading, especially when he was really sick. Also, it had to be sterizlied between each use. Which was a pain if we were all sick at the same time. AND they are SOOOO uncomfortable. Bleh.
Drawbacks to the Braun ThermoScan Plus:
You have to buy the little plastic covers for the ear piece. If you don't have one (because your two year old has spread them around the house) then it wont work.
If the batteries aren't completely charged you may get false readings and it wont necessarily tell you it needs new batteries.
It's a little tricky to get the hang of pulling the ear and pushing the button at the same time. I usually do the temperature 3 times (getting slightly different readings) to make sure I didn't make a mistake. Even so, it only takes a couple of seconds each time.
It's bigger than a traditional thermometer to pack, about the size of a thick paper back book. (now I'm really nitpicking)
